SPECIAL MEN GOING HOME.
AUCKLAND & DUNEDR THEIR TIMELY AID HONOURED ; K 1 (By Tfllejraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, December 8, Tlio whole of tho foot specials wore relieved from the duty of guarding tlio wharves this morning, tho Harbour Hoard now accepting that responsibility, and a further number of tlio hoard's employees being sworn in. Tho Superintendent of Police retains a small number of mounted specials, which, with tho regular police, will be suilieiont for tlio preservation of law and order. Admission to tho wharves by ticket is retained and confined to persons having legitimate business. Before tlio foot specials disbanded, Mr. Gunson, tho board's chairman, expressed warm appreciation of their services in a, timo of gravo emergency. Ho also thanked Police Superintendent Kiely, who had proved a wise and experienced officer, and expressed tho thanlis and appreciation of tho board tor tho services performed by tho regular police. On behalf of several members of tho board Mr. Gunson mado presentations to Messrs. Plugge, Grceniiotjgh, and Dawson, officers of tho special force. Superintendent .Kiely thanked tlio specials for tho part they had played in the campaign against lawlessness and disorder, and expressed tho opinion that none would be found disloyal should occasion arise for their return."to the city. plioers were given for Superintendent Kiely and tho officers of the Harbour Board.
