EXCITING NAPIER ELECTION. (By Telegraph— Special Correspondent.) Napier, December 8. Intense excitement- prevailed over tho election of the Queen of tho Carnival, last night. Yesterday morning tho loading candidates were! —No. 7, Mrs. (!. A. Hnsewarne, 10.878 votes; No. 10, Miss Gladys Cordon, 6021: No. 8, Miss Eva Hobitison, 5412; No. j 2, Miss May Ling, 5218. Last night an immense crowd assembled on tho Marino Parade to watch tho results of the polling, Which were posted up at intervals. Money was spent like water by enthusiastic supporters, and during'the last few minutes tho figures wore altered in thousands, tho winning camHdato making a jump from 18,000 to 22,000 in a few minutes. Probably never' before in Napier lias moro excitement been shown over an election of any kind. Near tho notice board a kinematograph was erected, and during intervals between tho alteration of the. numbers the waiting crowd wero abb i.) amuse themselves watching the pictures. When tho final results were announced, No, 7, Mrs. liosewarnc, was elected with 23,864 votes, llio second and third candidates being: No. fi, Miss Eva liobinsou 17,5C0 votes, and No. 10, Miss Gladys Gordon 7244 votes.
