December G, There were busy scenes on tho waterfront at Lyttelton to-day, tho energies of agents and watorside workers being concentrated on finishing tho work at tlio numerous ships in order to get them away from the port before tho week end. Eighteen ships worked, and thp volume of cargo handled was verylarge. Tho Huddart-Parker steamer Victoria has done good work, and lias clfarod up a big accumulation of cargo for Wellington. Tho steamer loaded about 800 or 900 tons for tho northern port, having discharged several hundred tons of cargo from Auckland. Tho Union Company's steamer Wanaka sailed shortly after midday for Dnnedin and tho Bluff. She will* load at southern ports for Auckland, Tho German steamer Sturmfcls has a fairlylargo quantity of agricultural and other machinery and sosa ironwork to land at Lyttelton, and will sail. for Dunedin on Monday. Thence, sho will proceed to Newcastle to load coal for yingapore. Tlio Shaw, Savill, and Albion linor Corinthic sailed at 5 p.m. for Auckland, Gisbornc, and Wellington to complete loading for London. Sinco Monday last' the Corinthic has discharged 2000 tons of general cargo, and has shipped a large quantity of produco for London. Her loading at, Lyttelton was as follows:—l2s9 bales of wool, LlO3 boxes of batter, 3000 crates of cheese, 1500 carcasses of mutton, 350 casks of tallow, and sacks of cocksfoot. The Corinthic. will fill up at northern ports, and will have over 9COO boxes of butter, a record shipment, in addition to other cargo, when she leaves Wellington for London.

The collicrs Karamu, Kowliai, Flora, and Canopus aro discharging to-day, Tho Kaitangata, which arrived in the stream about a month ago from Newcastle, will berth at No. 7 wharf, and will start discharging on Monday. Sho has 2SOO tons of coal io land. The Kittawa, with sugar and general cargo from Auckland, is duo hero to-morrow. It is reported that all tho employers of tlio drivers and carters in Christchurch have a sufficiency of labour, and aro fully manned. In fact, more labour is offering than thero is work to givo. Somo strikers who have applied to bo taken back to their old positions have found that their jobs havo been given to others.

Mutters at tho show grounds camp aro very quiet. A huge squad of mounted men rodo to Lytteiton ami back via the Dyer's Puss Road, m order to giro their horses soma exercise whilst the remainder of the men were engaged in drilling and cleaning up tho camp. During tho past day or two the whole of tho camp has been thoroughly cleaned up and disinfected. The camp on May's lioad, Papanui, was visited on Thursday evening hy Mi\ C. J. Cooper, in command of tho reserro of "specials," wlio, after introducing himself to those men in the camp that did not know him, had ;i talk with them, and told them that lie had visited tho camp in the interests of tho maintenance of order on the part of both sides.
