NOTES AND COMMENTS.
[Br Glencoe.] Tho Woodvillo Summer Meeting will bo held on Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Splendid acceptances iiave been received for tho different events, and good racing should result. Tho Auckland Cup candidates, Sir Solo and Guiding Way will bo amongst the runners, and their showing will enable a line to bo obtained re their prospects at Ellerslie.
Tho yearling full-sister to Immer, purchased by Mr. Kirkdalo at tbo Kinloch salo last month, was brought to Wellington on Friday last, and has joined C. Pritchard's team at Trentham. Roumania, tho half-brother to Odessa, is still growing fast, and after racing at Woodvillo lie may bo spelled. Play Oif is engaged in tho Maiden Plato, six furlongs, at Woodvillo on Wednesday. The Coronet gelding was well supported on each day at Feilding, but in tlio Aorangi Plate lie got a very bad run, and iu tho Scurry ho was left at tbo post. ■ ■ In the Hack Hurdles at Woodvillo Rill will havo to carry a 101b. penalty, which will make 'her weight list., 81b. Mr. 11. M'Manaway's marc won with such a lot in hand at Feilding that she may start a good favourite on Wednesday, though Marble Head, who has a great reputation at Hastiugs, will also be well supported. The various clubs racing at Christmas and New Year cannot but be satislied with tho responso from owners, and each club looks like having a good meeting. Tho wholo of tho events on tho thrco days at Awapuni have filled particularly well, and it cannot bo said that tho big gathering at Ellerslie has affected it in the slightest degree. After being detained in Sydney for several weeks owing to the strike, tho jumpers Marton and Glenmore were expected to get away on Saturday last. W. Adams was left in charge of tho pair as Trainer Lloyd was called back 'hurriedly owing to serious illness in his family. Adams has missed a lot of riding hero, including at least ono winning mount, viz., Rill, at Feilding. M. Hobbs will have no fewer tlinn eight yearlings by Kilbroney to handle this season. The voungslers are the property of Mr. J. B. Reid, who is fast getting together ono of the biggest teams in tbo Dominion. An acceptance of twentv in tho Auckland Cup must be consideml highly satisfactory, and after making a few allowances for 'horses who aro reported to be not quite right, it seems safo to assume that there will be a baker's dozen lino up at the barrier on Boxing Day.
The Karainu horse Witched is entered for the. different hurdle rares at the forthcoming Auckland Racing Club's mooting. The Ricoarton-trained Unierabo.v is also engaged in the same races. After tho declaration of forfeits, there remains, amongst others, in tho Great Northern Derby, Cherubim, Soltano, liniiny Helen, Y/arstep, Stevedore, Rinaklo, and Merry Roe. Hero is the material for a good race, and it is to be hoped that Rinaldo will bo at bis best, so that a lino will bo obtained as to the merits of tho others. Tho Auckland maro Ringlet died recently in Australia. Ringlet was got by JlenschikoCi from Armilln, and that she was regarded as valuable property may be gathered fro.n tho fact that her
yearling colt by Bobadil realised 1000 guineas. The New Zealand-bred Ireland (by Kitelieran —Savannah) is evidently estimated highly in West Australia, for in tho allotment of weight? for the Kailway Handicap (six furlongs) he figures top weight with 9st. 81b. The lot* il T. Fritchard, will ride Prince SonJt in the Haihvay Handicap at El'.crsiie. Sir George Clifford will probably have a fair-sized team competing at the smrimer meeting of the Manuwatu .liiscing Club. • Masterpiece, Brown Owl, Veritas, Briar Patch, and Snapdragon have been entered from ilio Cbokebore stables. SALE OF BLOODSTOCK. By Telegraph—Ptces Association—Conrrißht London, Dcc-mber 5. Tlie bloodstock sales at Newmarket yesterday aggregated 61.520 guineas, ail avcrago of 424 guineas, including 4500 guineas for Salamanca. •Tho Russian buyers spent £60,000 (hiring tlio sales. The sale entries aggregated 713 lots, realising 305,G58 guineas—a record.
