PRIORITY OF ENGAGEMENT.
A LAST CHANCE. FOR THE WATERSIDERS ON STRIKE. The strong position now'hold' by tho Defence Committee in rr.specfc to labour at tho waterside in "Wellington has warranted them taking a firm and final stand regarding all well-meaning waterside workers whose good senso lias not so far dictated the only reasonable course left, open to them if they intend in tho future to cam their livelihood on tho wharves. Tlio decision of the Labour Sub-Committee of tho Defence Committee arrived at yesterday is crystallised in tho following resolution which was unanimously adopted:— "As the membershin of the Wharf Labourers' Union is now almost sufficient to work the port, it has been decided that although tho agreement between the employers and tho workers provides for preference to unionists, priority of engagement will be given to those members joining the union on or beforo December S,' who are of good character, and who, in th? opinion . of the labour foreman, aro capable ■ of performing tlio work."
