(By Telegraph,—Press Association.) RANSACKED launches. POLICE FIND BOOTY "PLANT." Auckland, December 5. It was recently discovered that several oil launches at Ouchanga had lieen ransacked. One launch was removed from its moorings, and was found piled up on a saiidbank. The polieo yesterday visited \Y aikowai Park, on tho foreshore, and unearthed a complete plant. The opinion is hold that tho plant is that of tho men responsible, who wer-e preparing to make a- trip to Australia. iiio'pTant included: Compass, charts, a binnacle, six tins of benzine, large quantities of provisions, two or three bunks of clothing cut in the latest stfle, and a quantity of jewellery believed to have been stolen. Christopher Robert Smith was heforo the Police Court, to-day, charged with theft ist eomiMition with tho Customs eases, and was remanded till Tuesday. Mail was allowed in a personal bond of £250 and a surety of £500. Samuel James M'Cormack was rc-airested on a charge of conspiring to defraud tho Customs, and 'admitted to bail of £250 and £500. Warrants aro out for the arrest of other men, including a wellknown Customs official in Lyttelton.
