VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT RESIGNS.
DEFEAT OF REDISTRIBUTION OF SEATS HILL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright lYlelbourm, December 5. ■ The State Government was defeated over the proposal in the Redistributing of Scats Hill, to ineren.se the members of the Assembly from sixty-six to seventy. The liieasnre passed its second reading 011 the casting vote of tlio Speaker. In Committee, the Leader of the Opposition moved an amendment reducing the number of members. This, by a combination of the Opposition and a section of dissatisfied Liberals, was carried by 32 to 29. The Premier (Mr. Watt) immediately secured the adjournment oT the Houso in order to consider tlio position. The Houso meets to-day, when Mr. Watt will announce his intentions. It' is understood ho intends'to seek a dissolution; failing that, ho resigns. CABINET RESIGNS. (Rec. December 5, ,10.5 p.m.) Melbourne, December o. , The Watt Ministry has resigned. The Acting-Governor will probably invito Mr. Elmslee, tlio Labour leader, to form a Ministry.
