. Members of tho Legislative Council met Sir Joseph Ward last evening, for tho purpose of handing to hiin a wed-, ding present for his daughter (Mrs. B. B. Wood), whoso marriage took placo on Thursday. Tho presentation, which was mado by the Speaker of tho Council (Sir Charles Bowen), consisted of a handsomo solid silver roso bowl,; suitably inscribed, and a pair of silver flower vases, bearing tho bride's monor gram. Sir Joseph Ward, returned thanks to tho members'of the Council on behalf of his daughter. ' Friends of the Rev'. G. S. Cook, who ,hns 'been under treatment at tho Laliman Home, will be pleased to know that an operation has not been necessary. Ho has recovered from his. illness, and has resumed duty. • Tho death is announced uf Lady Philippe widow of Canan Sir. J.. K. I'hilipps. Lady Philipp-) was tlio mother of three unusually tall members of Parliament. They were Sir Owen l'hilipps, who is Gfi. 7in. in height; Colonel Ivor I'hilipjis, who is' lift. 'liu.. and Lord St. Davids, who is 6ft. 3in. high.' Tho only; European country which has a lower dcath-rato than England is Norway. '
