. TRAGIC DEMISE OF A FEDERAL
REPRESENTATIVE.

Melbourne, December 3. Mr. E. A. Roberts, member of the l'ederal Houso (Adelaide constituency), who dropped dead in the precincts of the House yesterday afternoon, aftor participating in a debate, was an honorary Minister in the previous Labour Cabinet. Ho suffered from heart trouble. His death was tragic. Just prior to succumbing, he had been engaged in a. wranglo with tho Chairman of Committees, who threatened, because, of his interjections, that if ho continued his attitude of insolence towards tho Chair tho latter would luivo to deal with him. Mr. Roberts, getting his hat and slick, was proceeding along *to the Queen's Hall, when he tottered and fell, clutching tho base of the statue of Queen Victoria. Drs. Moloney and O'Hara ca-mo to his assistance, and pronounced life to bo -extinct.
Mr. Cook, t.ho Primo Minister, and Mr. Fisher, Loader of tho Opposition, paid tributes to tho deceased,' and the House passed a motion recognising his services and expressing; sympathy with the widow and family. "The Houso then adjourned till Thursday.
Mr. Roberts's death will he a sovcro Mow to. the Labour Party, of which ho was a prominent member, especially so closely following Mr. Eraser's dcatli. MEMBER OF VICTORIAN ASSEMBLY.
