KINDERGARTEN WORK.
YEAR'S PROGRESS. A meeting of tho council, teachers, and friends* of tho Richmond Kindergarten Union was held at Mrs. Grady's, The Terrace, on Monday afternoon, Decomber 1, to present certificates lor tho year to the directors and student teachers engaged in the kindergarten work in Wellington. At Mrs. Grady's request Miss Richmond occupied the chair. Mrs. Gill, Miss England, Mrs. .lames Ilan-j-.uli, and Miss Riley, who had conducted the examinations, reported very favourably on tho work done during the year. Mrs. James Allen then presented the certificates. Miss Richmond spoke strongly on the need of support for the four schools, —batis money and teachers arc urgently needed for the coming year. -Miss Richmond referred to tho departure of Miss Riley, and of her success as headmistress, and mentioned particularly the wonderful progress tho teachers had made in music and all sorts of imaginative games under her guidance. Votes of thanks wero passed to Mrs. Allen, Mr. Tennaiit, Miss Page, and Mrs. Cohen and carried by acclamation. Tho early departure of Miss Burnett, Miss Fell, and Miss Hursthottso for England to complete their training was alluded to, and on behalf of tho council Miss Richmond wished tliciu success and a return to New Zealand fully equipped.to carry on their chosen work. Miss Matheson, the firstassistant, also received the thanks and best wishes of tho council, as she is giving up the work for a time. Miss liOuayno is also leaving, having accepted a- country appointment. All these ladies will bo much missed and their places must he filled next year. Miss Richmond drew special attention to this and emphasised the fact that tho work is suited to tho development of all that is highest in woman. It is hoped that applications will bo forthcoming before the middle of January, I A pleasant gathering was brought to a closo by the teacher-students sing- : ing very sweetly in chorus various songs which were much appreciated, Miss Riley reported upon the work done by tho students during tho year. This covered numerous subjects on which tho students wero examined during November, and on tho results _of which they were granted the following certificates; — Directors' certificate: Ethel Burnett, L. Rebecca Hind. Firstclass second year certificates: Aenone Talritian, Phoebe llonayno, Bwsio Halley, Hazel Fuller. Second-class second year: Ethel Burnett, F. Rebecca Hind, Anna Richmond Foil. Among tho first year students Dorothy Hursthouso gained a first-class certificate, Doris E. Vesper and Berenice Eggers winning a second class.
