A LIBERAL IN DEFENCE OF HIS PARTY.
Sir,—lt. is quite ovident that you and the Reform Party aro trying to makeas much political Rain out of tho present industrial crisis as you can, taking very great care to put nil tho blame on the Liberal side. Nov.-, I will a;;It you and the great leaders of the lic'orm Party who gave tlio Red Fed. their political birthright at last election? What was Masscy's message to tho people when he found that Inputting Payne, and Robertson and Go. in ho would have a chance to oust Sir .). Ward and be Prime Minister (Hon. Vv". I'Y Massey)? So far. so good, to Mr. Masscy and his party, but detrimental to tho country, because ho held out all sorts- of promises lor a square deal to Labour. An election is coming next year and nothing is done for his (Mr. Masscy's) Rod Fed. or any other Labour party; and, unless lie does something for them, he. will go out just as quick as tho Liberal Party did, because some, of tho Liberals did not bolievo in Socialism. . It was not on the vote of tho Dominion that the Liberals were defeated, nor will it bo the next timo that they go to tho.country, in spito of all tho got-up messages by tho Reform Party's friends. Olio would | wonder how the Dominion lias mado such strides under tho good old Liberal reign, and who did not want Canada to give us a load as Mr. Allen told tho Canadians that tho Reform Party depended oil them for a lead. : I sco by yesterday's Dominion that the groat Earl of Wellington Central (Mr. F. M. B. Fisher) had a lot to sayabout agreements. I wonder _ where is tho one ho mado to his constituent3 4 at last election. I don't think it is in Wellington. lam sure it is not in Heaven, so tho less ho has to say about agreements tho better for himself, and no doubt ho has to thank some of the Rod Fed. in tho old Waterside Workers' Union for tho fat position ho holds at tho present timo, or ho would not havo had a clianco to break his agreement. Trusting I have not taken too much of your valuablo space. —I am. etc. .'!. T. KENT. Ngatiawa, November 29 [Our correspondent wc suspect knows perfectly well that the Rclorm Party lias never supported nor encouraged the Red Federation. It supported Messrs. Payne, Robertson, and Vcitch as professed Labour candidates —not as Red Fcderationists. On tho other hand, tiro present Liberal Party did support an avowed Red Federationist, tho ex-president of the Federation, at the Grey election. As to making political gain out of tho present industrial crisis that was plainly tho object of thoso people in and out of Parliament who wore angling for tho votes of the strikers and their allies by casting unjust aspersions on tho special constables and by attempting to throw discredit on tho Government for their effotrs to uphold law and order, and to preserve to a free people tho right to work without foar of the brutal intimidation of tho Red Federation.]
