Very few of the strikers were in evidence about the streets this morning, and the town wears a dull and almost deserted appearance. So far none of tho meii on strike have gone over to the new union, but, as many of them are grow-
ing increasingly tircil of idleness,, it is fully expected thai ilicy will join up with tin; working forces very shortly. Last night 170 men answered tho rollcall of the new nnion, ami thirty more went to Lytk'Hon and joined up this morning. It Is evidcnrlv a ease of "onco bit, twice shy/' The "actual number who responded to the call iji. not known, but the employers of drivers in the city reported this morning that there was no lack of men offering. At the railway goods shed mattors were as busy as ever. The Citv Council's drivers remained unaffected by the call, and wero all back on the job tlijs morning. Advice received from i Wellington states that the new Drivers' , Union has been registered.
Under instructions from Wellington, all foot specials at Atidiiigton camp am being discharged. A force of" 2uo mounted men is being retaincd-for ser-
vice in Christ-church and Lytteltou. The camp authorities aro arranging to recall others quickly if disorders arise.
