ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A NURSE'S DEATH, Yesterday afternoon Mr. W. 0. I! iddell, S.M.. held an inquest touching ths death of Jean Stuart, vlio died at Kelburne on Sunday morning. Evidence was given to tho efi'ect that death was duo to taking poison. Tho verdict was that tho deceased died from poisoning, hut that there was not sufficient evidence to show li'het-her she took Iho poison accidentally or otlienviso. Miss Stuart was a nurse, about !3 years of age. She was a resident of Marton, and had boon in Wellington for a month to recruit alter nervous breakdown. . SERIOTJS ACCIDENT. AT A NEWMARKET CROSSING. Auckland, December 2.' Cyril Bridges and Thomas J. Sheohftn, when driving a motor milk van from town, were run down by a- train at a level crossing in Newmarket. Th-j van was sra.ash.ed to matchwood. Uridines .sustained a broken leg and other injuries, and Sheelian a broken arm and severe seal]) and face wounds. Both were removed to the Hospital. Their injuries arc not regarded as likely to prove fatal. The accident occurred at a very dangerous place, where approaching'trains are not visible until a porso-n is'within a very short distance. It is stated that tho'whistle was blown, but Bridges and Sheelian evidently did not hear it. WHARF WORKER INJURED. Auckland, December "2. A married man named 11. Colder, an employee of the Union Company, fell from a ladder on tho King's Wharf this morning. He was admitted to the Hospital immediately, suffering fropi concussion of the brain. His condition is regarded ns serious. FATAL FALL FROM A HORSE. Pslsiarston Marsh-, December 2. An elderly man, William Smith, _ a resident of Bulls for 33 years, was killed instantaneously to-day. Ho was giving a lad a ride, behind him while returning home from Marton stock sales, and the horse, objecting to tho doublo burden, threw Smith. He fell on his forehead and was killed instantaneously, lie leaves a widow and eight children, all grown up. DIES AFTER MOTOR-BICYCLE COLLISION 1 . Wanganf, December 2, A young man named Reginald C. Faber, aged eighteen, met with a fatal' accident yesterday. While, riding a motor-bicycle, he collided with a dray, am! sustained a fractured larynx, and death resulted this afternoon. Tho deceased was a well-known athlete and exstudent of the Collegiate School. tierepresented Wiiiiganni in Rugby football, cricket, hockey, and was an oarsman.

FOUND DROWNED. Mr. W. 0. liiddoll, S.M., held an inquest at the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning into tho circumstances connected with the death of Leonard I'riee, :i waterside worker, whoso body was found ilo.il ing in the harbour, near Tanmaki Street Wharf, on Saturday last. Deceased wos about fifty years of n™e, and lived at 31n Frederick Street, with another waterside worker, named .Tames Ritchie. Evidence given nt the inriuest was to the effect that he was generally of a. clieorfiil disposition anYi of sober habits, but when last seen alive, on November 21, he appeared to be depressed, and complained of internal pains. Them was no ovideii.ee at lo how ho came by his death, and the t.'ni-Diier therefore returned a verdict of "Found drowned."
A' hailstorm, exceeding in severity any remembered by old residents, occurred on Thursday overdue,, November HI, over an area of sumo miles in extent, at Taradale and Fast Metcalfe, Victoria.
