It should be noted that the Stratford Telegraph Office closes at 8 p.m. The news that "Mr. Higltdcit" has purchased Expect did not come altogether as a surprise. Trainer Geo. Price has for a considerable time east longing eyes on the sun of Advance, and as far back as May he priced tha bay horse. Expect has generally been much above himself vrhen he has'rnced, and the opinion has been freely expressed that he could win a good handicap if tightened up. • It will bo interesting to see bow Price-fares with his new charge. Summer Meeting, close on Friday next at 9 p.m. The success of Ermcngnrdc in the I' eliding Stakes on Saturday came after a long run of failures. Two seasons ago she was one of tho smartest two-year-olds in the Dominion, five races being credited to her, but she raced through last season without winning a ■ ace. She is by Charlemagne 11, and, liico most of Ins progeny, she- is weil endowed with pace. Supported on both days, the little feilow ran third on tho first dav, but instead of tho run doing him* good, li seems to have knocked him out completely. After showing up well for u milo on Monday, lib Btartod to go back, and was nearly a furlong behind tinj winning horse wlion tho post was reached. The Rover lias an engagement vj tho big handicap at Woodville next week, but in tlio light of liis failure at Feilding ho may not bo required to fulfil liis Woodville engagements. Goldeiimoro, by Gold Reef from Kilmoroy (dam of Moreykoff), won the l-1.l hands handicap at Kensington, Now South Wales on November 15. Postillion's win in tlio Orottn. Stakes at Foilding has earned him a penalty of 31b. in tho Railway Handicap, at Elkjslie. This will make his weight B:it. 81b., or within 31b. of Soltano. Tho lastnamed is_ already at a short price, coupled with tho favourite selections for tho Cup. It seems fairly certain that Quarantine will fulfil his engagement in tho Auckland Cup. Too much reliance must not bo placed on the brown gelding failures at Riccarton, for ho was probably hurried along too much in his preparation. Ho may bo right by the end of the month, though oneo a horso starts ou tho downward grade a good spell is usually required to freshen up again.
Soultorin, wlio cost 11. Conlon 970 guineas, in New Zealand Inst JOcrcmher, was having her first, run in Australia, in a mile and a quarter hiimiicap at tho Hosoliill meeting on Xovcmlior 15.
