This was attacked by Mr Jireen (who appeared for the Dunedin Union), w'ho contended that tlio rate paid in Dunedin should also bo paid by local firms. The Court reserved iLs decision. ITALIAN COOK IN TROUBLE. Invercargill, December 1. At tho I'olico Court, Joseph Saliba an Italian cook ill a local hotel, was charged with using obsceno language, drunkenness, and assaulting Senr-nut Bingham in the execution of his duty. Saliba was arrested on Sunday night. Ho butted Sergoant liingliam ' in "tlio chest, besides causing a wound oil his forehead. Constablo Hood camo to Sergeant Bingham's assistance, and accused kickcd him antl knocked him down. Finally ho was overpowered and walked to tho police station. A remand was granted until Thursday. Bail was allowed. ALLEGED ARSON. Oarcaru, December 1. On a chargo of deliberately sotting fire to the house of liis employer (Ct. Preston), Alfred W. Aldred has been remanded till Wednesday. ARBITRATION COURT REPRESENTATION. Invercargill, December 1. Tho Sawmill Workers' Union has decided to support llr. J. M<Culloug'h as workers' representative on tho Arbitration Court.
