SUMMARY AND FORECAST. Present indications nro for heavy rain in most parts of the country, snow on higher levels, with rivers rising. Tho barometer is unsteady, but will probably rise temporarily soon, Strang westerly winds, changing to incfeaeins Southcrlio3. I High and sQually westerly wisds have prevailed, rain has fallen in most, parts of the country, and considerable snow on tho ranges in parts of tho South Island. Freshes aro reported in tlio rivers on the West Coast-. Tho barometer' has fallen very low in. the south, 28.8 inches being reported yesterday at tho Uluil. I). C, BATES.
