MR. WEBB AGAIN PROMINENT.
A PARCEL BLOCKED ON THE WHAKF. Mr. P. C. Webb, M.l\ for Greyinouth, lias been much in evidence 011 tin; Wellington wharves since the advent, of tho 1913 strike. Just prior to the Wobble's sailing for Lyttelton lust evening, ho was ajain prominent. The~M.l\ for Grey mouth had hooked a passage by what his companions call a "scab" ship. A few minutes before tho vessel left, an express arrived at ■ the wharfsidc with a bulky parcel wraplied up in brown paper. This was deposited in a slim; of luggage- which was about to bo hoisted on board when a Union Company's official asked what it contained. A boat note was produced slid the official promptly declared tho pared to he cargo. 110 thereupon gaveorders that it could not he accepted. Some argument ensued, but tho official remained firm. Subsequently Mr. Wel'b came along the wharf, followed by the expressman, who was carrying tho parcel which had just been refused as cargo. Mr. Webb told the. carter to hand the parcel to a steward who was in waiting, and thn latter commenced to carry it 011, hoard. Boforo, "lie reached tiic deck, however, ho was stopped and ordered to take his burden ashore. It is stated that Mr. Webb was iiil-nrrojwted by .mother Union Company's official, and asked what the parcel contained. Ho could not give a satisfactory answer, however, and again tho much-handled brown paper parcel will dumped 011 the wharf. Tho first official then carno 011 tho secne and took the situation in at a glance. Nothing more was said just at that moment, and tho carter was'compelled to tako liis freight back to his cart. It is understood that the parcel in question contained Red Federation literature.
