PECULIAR MOTOR ACCIDENT. Ashburton, November 23. A peculiar motor accident occurred oi the J,lain North itotd, about three miiei south of Bnkaia, -this afternoon. The iorpinost car had jusi run through a wateiT.ace, when u di-a.v, driven tandem, tras met-, Tim driver of t-lie first, car sounded his horn, hut this evidently caused the nervous leading horso to plunge about tho roadway finally running straight i.ll front of tho car. The driver of tho ear, in order to avoid a collision, turned aside, and was forced to travel over tussocks, but tho 'roughness of the ground caused the car to capsisso, and it fell on tho log of tlia driver; bub then a miracle happened, for tho ear righted itself again Almost iu a sccoiid. Tiro ear rmt'uing behind .'had a narrow escape from a collision as tho overturned oar had thorough!;/ frightened the- horses, and after thej had plunged about for a moment or twe they turned and bolted' towards Ashburton. The occupants of_ the overturn' et'l ear liad a severe shaking, but their friends in t'ho other ttafhin? wero able to render first aid. Tho driver was found to have broken a small bono in tho leg, and he also burst a vein. His companion was severely- bruised-, about tho .body. Tho car was severelv damaged.
