A special meeting of tho Gtaki Town Board was hold on Thursday, to consider a report from Mr. A. J. I'aterson, civil engineer, on high-prcssuro water, electric lighting, and scwerago schemes. Mr. I'aterson, who was present, put the matter fully before tlio board, with the result that tlio matter will now bo put bet'oro tlio ratepayers for tlso purposes of a poll. There are no _ alternate schemes, the commissioners Loing unanimously of opinion that electric lighting would ho better than anything els-o lor lighting purposes. A mail named Joseph Ciillen, n.ias Collins, was charged hero on Thursday with passing a valueless cheque on one Howard Andrew, storekeeper, ut Manakau. The accused, who said ho liatl 110 intention of committing the crime, was lined £0, ill default otie nioiitn's imprisonment with hard labour.
