Children's Fancy Dress Danes. A juvenile fancy dress ball in connection with the Eisthorpo (H. 15.) School was held in the. Public Hall recently to raise funds for the purchase of prizes. The hall was prettily decorated for the occasion, cabbage tree blossom largely predominating. There, was .1 very largo attendance of scholars and their parents and others. About forty of the young people woro in fancy dress, and took part, in the opening evolutions, and their varied costumes presented a very pleasing effect. Mrs. C. N. D. Williams, of Atua, 'was present, and awarded tlie following prizes:—Girls: Prettiest costume, Ruby M'Aulay (Tinegal Dancer), 1; Elsie C'lieer (Flower Girl) and Nellie Stevens (Spanish Dancer), equal, 2. Most original costume, Nora Beachen (Irish Colleen), 1: E<lio Pepper (Greek Hero), 2. Boys: Prettiest costume, Hector M'Aulay (Swiss Shepherd), 1; Richard Beachen (Little Boy Blue), 2. Most origina Icostnme: Hector M'Quade (Father Christmas), 1; C. M'Quade (Red Indian), 2.
Mrs. Pankhurst. Mrs. Pankhurst, in a speech at New York, delivered on her departure for England, attacked the principle of different standards of morality for men and women. Sho declared that men were behind women in point of civilisation. —Sydney "Sun" Special.
Lady Stout has returned from her visit to Auckland. Mrs. J. D. Baird, Soltray (Mnstorton) is visiting her daughter, Mrs. N. Moore (Wanganui). Mrs. J. D. Cameron (Mastcrton) and Miss Cameron aro at present staying in Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. Trcgear have been visiting their daughter, Mrs. H. Robinson, in Picton. Mrs. C. Tully and Miss Joan Tully aro expected to return to Now Zealand about December 6. They aro travelling by tho Ruahiuo. . Miss C. Tully (Mangantahoc) intends tp leave for England early next year. Mrs, Chaffey has been visiting Dimedin. :
Miss M'Kcrrow • (Dunedin) is leaving for England shortly. Miss Lena Van Staveron intends leaving Wellington early next year on a visit to England, lb should be a particularly interesting time for Miss Van Staveron as sho will be able to sec something of her sister, Miss Adolaido Van Staveron, .who it will bo remembcred distinguished herself last season when singing at Covent Garden. This year she has been singing in grand opera in Italy. Mrs. T. G. Macarthy and Mrs. E utter, who havo been staying in Napier, left yesterday on their return to Wellington.
Mr. and Mrs. Risliwortl! (Mastortoii.) are at present visiting Wellington. Miss Mario Motto..gave a violin recital in Napier on Wednedsay evening. She was assisted by Miss Phyllis Fell. "It is probable that AVellington musiclovers will have another opportunity of hearing Miss Motto before she returns to London. / Tho death is recorded of Mrs. Louisa Symons, relict of the late Mr. Thomas Symons. Deceased was a sister of the late Mr. John Fitchctfc, of AVellington, and Mr. A. B. Fitchett, Brooklyn. Madame-' Clara Butt-Eumford has forwarded to Mrs. Eollcston, Hair and Vaco Specialist, an excellent testimonial which appears in another column on this page.*
