HATAITAI BATHING CLUB. The Hataitai Bathing Club has been informed by. tho City Council, in'reply to their request, that the water main opposite tho club's shed at Evans Bay will be tapped by the Corporation, but that the club will ho required to 'fiay for tho water consumed at their shed at the usual meter rates.
CIVIL SERVICE SPORTS,
INTER-DEPARTMENT'TOURNA-MENT. . • • The third animal Civil Service interDepartmental tournament is to commence next Saturday with tho swimming contests, which are to take placo at the To Aro Baths. Tho occasion will be the opening of tho season for the Wellington Swimming Association, which body.has consented to allow the Civil Service Committee to plaoa its competitive events on the programme. Among the events will be a 50 yards handicap for tho lady members: of the Service, and according to tho entry list a big field is expected to face the starter. Mr. C. Gamble (Post and Telegraph) has charge of tho swimming section. As was last year and as is the case this year tlie high-diving contest has brought forth a. number of budding high divers. The tennis tourney will commence on tho Newtown courts on Monday morning, and will consist of, ladies' and gentlemen's singles and doubles. Great interest was centred in tho tournament last year, and with the number of entries on this occasion the results should bo closo and interesting. Mr. J. ft. M'Cluro (Education Department) is responsible for tho tennis portion of the tournament. Tho big ev % e.iiit of the tournament is the athletic portion, which is to be held on tiio Basin Reseryo on Monday (St. Andrew's Day), tng at 2 p.m.
