DISTRICT NURSING GUILD.
ANNUAL REPORT, . Tho annual general meeting of tho District Nursing Utiild-of St. John was Held yesterday- afternoon, when tho balance-sheets were-, passed!,, and. tho following- report adopted:— From November .1, 1912,, to October 31, PJI3, tho records show that 176 additional district patients have been registered and 8728 visits paid by the District Nurses to tho sick poor hi their own homes. Tho last offices were carried out- in connection with ton patients, and 33 were removed to tho Genera! Hospital. According to statistics, 1013 cases havo been attended to silica tho'appointment .of tho first District Nurse ott October 1, 1903, 'giving' a'yealy avorago of 161 for tlio past decade. From tho timo the guild was ff.undcd under til© order of St. John of Jorttsalom on January 18, 1900, some ! of the Nursing Sisters of St. John rendered offectivo service in homo nursing among the sick poor -before the District Nurses entered on their duties and others aro still prepared, to continue this good work in any contingency that may arise. A separate report ami bal-ance-sheet is furnished on behalf of tho Nursing Sisters' Branch as a subdivision of tho guild, under the nomenclature of "Tlio Wellington Nursing Division." Her Excellency tho Countess of Liverpool has accepted the positon of patroness vacated by Lady Islington, and owing to tlio regrettable illness of Mrs. S. A. Rhodes. Lady of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, the duties of president have largely devclved on Mrs. W. H. S. Moorliouse, one of the vice-presidents. Owing to thu resignation, of Nurse Sexton, the committee unanimously promoted Nurse Macaudrew to the position of senior nurse, and appointed Nurse Walton as assistant. Both nurses have excellent certificates and tetimonials. Medicine, comfort, and medical requisites aro regularly provided for most of the patients, nnd'tho nurses entertain a largo number of convalescents and others overy Christmas. Thanks aro tendered-to tho "Two Garment Society" and others for substantial gifts of clothing, etc., to subscribers for their continued support, Mr. Iniiiss, tlio Press, tho auditors (Mr, Batten), various medical practitioners, and ail others who have in any way assisted to promote tho best interests of the guild." The committee ventures to express tho hope in conclusion that tho continued operations of tlio guild will merit the approval of the-council of tno Order of St.'. John, of -Jerusalem, as well as'the benevolent eifr/.ens of Wellington, and that the work will inspire thoseinterested i" an increased endeavour to care for humanity in need sickness, or arv other adversity m this lair land under tlvti Southern Cross. Just • before tho close of :tho guild s financial year, tlio present- lamentable industrial' strike occurred (October-No-vember. 1913), necessitating the call, to dutv of eei'tilicated members, wiio have Tendered "first aid" in numerous instances. Tho guild committee and members, with tho co-operation of. influential Wellington women,, also undertook to p-evitlo" refreshments for tho mounted special constables and others, hundreds of whom are daily appreciating the provision made for them in this direction.
