(From Our Special Correspondent.) A well-known figure on the Lower Hutt railway platform for the past seventeen years Ims been that of Mr. J. R. Hitrte, tho stat-iomnaster. Mr. Harto. however, is shortly to retire on suttcraunuation, after having worked for a period of 37 years in the railway service. The date of his retirement is December 12. The continuation of the concrete seawall on the I'etone Esplanade—a work which is being carried out by tho bo-rough engineer at Fctonc for the Wellington Harbour Board —is to be completed this week. Already the improvement of tho wall is very apparent, while the filling in up to the level of the roadway is going oil steadily. For tho monthly sitting of the Pctoiift Jlnfiistrato's Court this morning Uiero is unite a, long list of cases to bo dealt- with. The claim on the Petonc Roroufih Council for damage alleged to luive been suffered by a .motor-car .on account of the Hutt Road crossings will be an interesting case and' one of' the first of its kind heard in the district. T'liero is also p. strike rase arising out ol the prosecution .last Wednesday.'
