•ACCOMMODATION AT COLLEGES. Tho 'headmasters of the. Wellington city schools forwarded the following reeomniondation to yesterday's meeting of tho Education Board; on 'the sutiject of regulating the admission of holders of proficiency certificates to secondary schools:—"That each head teacher, send to tho secretary of the Education Board, by December 18 or 20, lists of 'applications for admission to the Boys' and Girls' Colleges, and that such applications bo for.vardcd by the board's spcr'c-' tary' to tho secretary of llio College Governors." ' ■ A report was also received from tliPinspectors. recommending the board to consult the College Governors on the question, and, if-they were willing to cooperate with the hoard, the inspectors recominondcd the adoption of the head-' masters' suggestion. Mr. .T. G. \V. Aitken suggested that all children should get their certificates at tho samo time, and that jio pupil ■ sliould be allowed to interview the college principals until the certificate had been received by him or her. This would give everyone an equal chance of admission. Mr. Hogg moved that steps bo taken to provide more accommodation at Wellington College and the Girls', College for free-place pupils. Every child who passed tho proficiency examination was entitled to iho benefits of/higher education, and there sliould bo no exclusion. Several members stated that there was ample accommodation at tho Boys' College. It was only tho Girls' Collcio nTiiah could not provido for all candidates. Tho chairman reminded Mr. Hogg that tho Government had just spent £10,000 in increasing the accommodation at the Boys' College. Acting on the advice of various members. Mr. Hogg agreed to make his proposal a uotico of motion for the nest meeting. The recommendations of the inspectors and 'headmasters were adopted. -
