Fraser ill ilio annual Public AVorks Stnlcmontpresented to Parliament yesterday:— "Satisfactory progress has hccu made with the Lake Coleridge pmver-works. The works now under constriction provide for head works aiid buildings for supplying 10,000-horse-power, whilst the plant <m order is eapablo of supplying 4000 horse-power after allowin? for one spare unit. Transmission" lines will be erected in duplicate between Lako Coleridge and Ciiristclmrcli, whore a substation will be built containing the necessary transforming plant, also in duplicate. 'In commotion with this substation a- standby plant consisting of oil engines driving'three-phase generators will bo installed so as to maintain the cnppl.v to Clirisieinirrii and district in liio event of failure of the transmission line. From the sub-station, which is situated in A<i<lim;ton, power will bo supplied to Christchureh and to tlio siirrounding district for a radius of twenty mile;? or'thereabouts.
