MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
POLICE CASES,
BOAftOINGHOUSE THIEF ACAIM,
Mr. W. G. Riddell presided over the usual Bitting of the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. George Edward Wcatlako, who has been recentlj' sentenced to terms of imprisonment for jewellery thefts committed at various places, appeared to answer three more chargcs (1) that ou October 2 at Napier ho stole a watchchain and pendant valued ot 275. od. from ono Herbert Wright. (2) That on the same date at the samo place ho stole from William Lowell a chain and medal, (3) That at Ohristehuna. on October G ho stole from Cornelius Orimrnus various articles of jewellery" of a total value of £10. Chief Detective Broberg stated ill at nearly the same procedure had been adopted by accused in these cases as in his previous thefts. He had called at boardinghousos, represented himself to bo a railway employee, and asked for hoard. Ho committed tho thefts- during tho temporary absence of the occupiers of rooms. On the two Napier charges, to which accused pleaded guilty, he was sentenced to ono month's imprisonment. On the third charge accused was re-mand' cd to Cirri si chui'cii to appear on. November 29.
OTHER COURT OASES. •On. the information of John Hall Hocktoii Millard was charged with obtaining from the prosecutor the sum of £19 by means of raise pretences with intent to defraud. Accused was remanded until to-day. Bail was allowed .in £20 and ono surety of £20. ' Arthur Edward Tonka, who was found in n state of helpless insobriety <"J November 16 was ordered to pay 17s. 6d. medical expenses in default of 48 hours' imprisonment. lildith Home, charged with insobriotv, was fined 10s.
MAINTENANCE CASES. Andrew Archibald was ordered to pay Is. 6d. per week in support of eaeh of his four grandchildren^ David Joseph Lane was ordered to pay Bs. a week towards tho support of Ills child who is an inmate of the Wellington Receiving Homo, Walter Eda ivas fined 205,, or seven days imprisonment for disobedience of a maintenance order. For a- similar broach. Alfred Ed© was' fined 40s. or seven days' imprisonment, and Nellie Oolville 40S.J or seven day»' imprisonment.
