STRIKES AND LOCK-OUTS.

Sir,—ln t-ho oflicial Year Book, 1910 (Pago 563), we read: "A strike or lockout is illegal only if the parties con* corned are bound by an award or agreement. If a strike takes piaoo in any industry, each worker who becomes a party to the strike, and who is bound bv an award or agreement, is liable to a penalty not exceeding £10, and in ease of a look-out each -offending employer who is bound by an' award is liable to a penalty not exceeding £500. l ? or inciting, instigating, aiding, or abetting an unlawful Strike or lock-out, or its eoiitimtanoo a worker is liable to a penalty of £10, and a union, association (of employers -or workers), or an employer £200. A gift of money or other valuable thing for the benefit of a party oc union engaged in a strike is deemed to k> aiding or abetting, etc."

Seeing thai soveral sums of money have been paid over to the old Wateraiders' Union bv otter unions and private individuals, are they not all open to prosecution ? Tho tnero fact of allowing those nnareliistß to feed on their brother unionists must bo condemned by all right-thinking people as it will only prolong tho strike, weaken the strikers, and put more money into the pockets of the Jled Fed. officials. Trusting that tho law will assert itself, —I am, •ete.. DISGUSTED. Wellington, November 24, 1913.
