It is understood an oft'orti mil b@ made to get tlio Willoctara away on Wednesday next. LATEST DEVELOPMENT. (Uec. November 24, 10.20 p.m.) ! Sydney, November 24. The latest strike development is tho refusal of the wharf labourers to unload | t.ho Union Company's steamer Kari-tan-o's cargo <A> oats and potatoes from j Hobart. Tho company's regular staff j is discharging the cargo* Other batnlies ■ of, "regulars" are discharging the HYillochra's and Makura's cargoes. Amongst tho passc-iigers hold up by tho noil-departure of the Manuka are 200 immigrants who arrived on Thursday by the Oramu. Tho delay is 1 ikclv to prove a serious drain on. ;tho finances of numbers of them Tho Malic-no is still lying out in the stream. The Seamen's TJnion is inclined to consider that tho Union Company is keeping her there in order to pnpefit the ciw from leaving. It is pointed out that tho agreement provides that tho men cannot hand in thqir resignations until the vessel reaches a place where cargo is loaded or unloaded— meaning a wharf. Probably ilia Makura's crow will be paid off. Questioned in regard to a New Zealand cable that unless tho Sydney Union manned tho Makiir.i a crew would bo sent from Dunedin* the Secretary of the Seamen's Union stated that ho !had no official knowledge of such cable message and had nothing to say on the matter. So far tho strike hhs' not affected the officers of tho Union Company's vessols. The secretary of tho Merchant Service Guild says that his organisation has no official knowledge of imy dispute, and no communication bait passed between tho Guild and tho men. Ho added: "Wo aro keeping out of it at least as long as we can."
(Rec. November 25}, 1.15 a.m.) Sydney, November 24. Th© Union Company denies' tho reports of trouble amongjst tho stewards regarding tho supply of food to the frea workers engaged in discharging tho vcsols, and also denies that the Malieno is anchored in tho stream in order to prevent the crow from landing. Tho company states that the men are at liberty to leavo if they desire, but they want to step on board. The company- hopes, fro get tho Malieno away on Wednesday with the Manuka's mails and passengers. A meeting of the Soaman's Union tonight endorsed the previous resolution not to re-engage men for the Union Company's steamers till tho trouble in New Zealand is settled.
