JUMPED FROM A WINDOW.
NEW ARRIVAL INJURED. Frederick Jolly, & middle-aged maw, sustained serious injuries through jumping out of a window of tho Salvation Army's People's Palace in Cuba Street at 3 a.m. yesterday. .Tolly, who arrived at Dunediii from London by tlio Turakina on Friday last, came to Wellington by the Maori on Sunday morning. Ho shared n rofi'ni in tho People's Palaco with a foilow-passonger, of tlio Turakina, Henry Rogers, According to a statement by Rogers, the two men had gono for a Walk in the afternoon, and Joily complained on big return of pains in tho head. Later ho said that ho Mt bettor, and when ho retired nt 10.30 p.m. seemed to bo in his usual health. At 3.20 a.m. on Monday Rogers was aroused, and sa-.t J oily trying to got out of tho window y-f their room, which was on the third floor. He tried to prevent Jolly from falling, but was too late. Tho pelico and a doctor having been summoned, it was found that Jolly had sustained fracture of the spine. He was removed to tho Hospital, where he was found to bo in a. very precarious condition.
