WOMAN'S EXPERIENCE IN A CHANNEL BOAT. The Griind Jury at the East Sussex Quarter. Sessions at ' Lewes recently tluw out the bill in the case of Marie Magnaitd, an Italian woman, who -was committed for trial on • a charge of stealing a diamond ring belonging'' to •Stephanie Siminoudi, a Hungarian woman, in a steamer from Dieppe to Ncwliaven. The prosecutrix placed the ring by a basin while washing her hands. The accused attlio same time washed with a piece of soap belonging to her. Afterwards the ring was missed, tand at Ncwliaven a detective Jouncl it in Mrs. .Maguaud's handbag. The -defenc-e was that the ring;' adhered to .Mrs. Maguaud's soap, and that she placed it in iter bag without seeing it. The chairman (Sir Frederick Albert . liosancjuet. R.C.) stated that there was no cause for suspicion against Mrs. Magliaud. The same sort of mistake or accident had occurred in other places. .Mrs. Magnaud .was a woman of good character. It was stated that letters had been received from three people who had road about tlio case in the Press, recalling similar personal experiences to that of Mrs. Magnaud.
