TRANSPORT TURMOIL
ADVICE TO RAILWAYMEN. Under the heading "Transport Turmoil" the current issue of the "New Zealand Railway Review" publishes the following advico to railway men: — "The serious situation among 'the waterside- workers of the Dominion Comes very close homo to railwaymen who coiistituto the main body of transport workers in this country. Groat care is required on the part of our members to see that they do not involve themselves in a' position .which would be at varianco with statutory' obligations and the well-established policy of the Amalgamated Society.of Railway Servants, llailwaymen are in a position of great responsibility to-day, for water communication- is uncertain, i f not.impossible, at the time of writing. Thus the whole population depends entirely on the railways for sustenance. We fully realise that our members, except in one jisolatcd individual case, have not taken action in connection with the dispute. . Their interests* are being closely, jealously watched by the president, general secretary, and executive, and if any situation arises which calls for action; if there is any provocation from within the Department or without, they must not act as individuals. • Instant communication with headquarters should take place, and our members should be guided by those in whose hands the control of our great national organisation is vested. Let us preserve our- undivided strength, and our good name."
