Carolus has been suffering from an attack of influenza, and in' consequence was not' started at Riccarton last week. Glenfin, by Gleriapp—Puawai, winner of the Apprentices'• Plate on the first day-of the recent meeting at Riccarton,, has been sold, by, Mr. H. Cassidy, and she will probably be shipped to Melbourne. To-morrow is an important date for owners and trainers. Nominations for the Woodville, Dunedin, and Taranaki meetings close, weights for the Auckland Cup. are due, and acceptances for' the Feilding meeting close. At the same time final payments for the Feilding Stakes are also duo. . . ■. When Charmilla had gone a couple of furlongs iu the Electric Plate on Saturday the saddle slipped, and goiug past the stand'it was.dangling ' about her flanks. H. Yoniig, who was riding the filly, had a rather uncomfortable experience, but'he had no chance of controlling her, although he Btuck to her well. - L. Wilson, Who was riding-Ven-tura in the same, race, quickly sized up the .position, and as he raced past he caught hold of her bridle,, but both had travelled a good quarter of a mile past the winning-post before Wilson was able to stop Charmilla as well as his own mount. Wilson rides very short, and he must be credited with a very fine exhibition of horsemanship in handling the two fillies as he did. Young, the rider of Charmilla, is „lso indebted to Wilson for preventing what.might have resulted in a severe accident. The balance of Mr. E. J. Watt's horses, and also' Bandiera, Bon Revo, and several youngsters belonging to Mr. W. Stead,-were brought up from Lyttelton yesterday,. and were railed to Palmerston North by tho 4.15 p.m. train. They will go on to Hastings by the early train, which arrives there at midday. Jockey A. Oliver will be riding at Takapiina on Wednesday next. His confreres, H. Gray, B. Deeley, S. Reid, and F. D. Jones, will be at the Timaru meeting on the same date. K. Lambess was'engaged to ride several horses at the Blenheim meeting, but he missed the Mapourika on Monday and as he could not get ■ another steamer, he returned home to Wanganui yesterday. ■■''.' The news that Messrs, Stead Bros, have dissolved partnership caused some surprise locally, and nr all quarters it is considered that Mr. W: G. Stcadjias the best of the division in securing Bandiera and Bon Reve. One authority fives it as his opinion that Mr. lb. J.
