BRISTOL AND DOMINIONS ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF THE BOARD. 14i m ? ot , in S of the New Zealand Board ol Control of the Bristol and Dominion's l reducers' Association was held in WelJmgton on Tuesday. Mr. AV. D. Lysnar (Oisborne) presided. There were prosent also Messrs. AV. J. Poison (Wanganui) L. H. M'Hardy (Hawke's Bay), I'. 11. \\ iso (AVairarapa), Hugh Roberts (general manager), and H. G. Hill (assistant manager). It was reported that sixteen consignments of dairy produce had so far gono wnvardj and that steps wore being taken to make the initial shipment of meat.' ; t 'r l ,'°ir boar , d do:; wled to appoint Mr. E. J. Collie, of AVellington secretary of tho association, tiiid to take offices in the Itoyal Exchange buildings in Customhouse Quay. . It was decided to make'advances in connection with frozen meat on a basis which is said to be new to Now Zealand. A letter was read from-Mr. G. P. Donnelly, of Hawke's Bay, who has just returned from England, in which ho said: - "AVhen .-it Home, I made it mv business to visit both docks and asked the High Commissioner to allow Mr. Crabbo, the Government Veterinary Surgeon and agent, to accompany me, which he did. After going over the Bristol docks, I can safely say there is no comparison, as far as the handling of frozen meat and produce is concerned. The accommodation for transhipping could not bo better at Bristol, and if they carry out further improvements in the accommodation, which I was informed they intended doing, it will be everything that is 'required for our frozen meat and 'other products. I was more than surprised.at the handling of frozon meat at the other docks in London. After all these years of the shipping of frozen meat, it is surprising to see the primitive way in which the work is done. I nctually found them running tho frozen meat from three to five carcasses on hand trollies for a distance of from two to three chains to the railway trucks, in dust and dirt. As you are_ aware, .the wheels are not above nino inches from the ground. There is no doubt that our going into .this matter has given them a great shock, and they now talk of going in for very large improvements. It clearly goes to prove that all you have said to tho shippers in the Dominion was quite justifiable."
