USAGE OF ANIMALS.
MEETING OF THE SOCIETY. The fortnightly meeting of the Sdciotj r for the Prevention, of Cruelty to Animals was held yesterday. Mr. R. H. Wobb presided.. "One of the worst cases I have had for some years," said Inspector Sesd, characterising a- case of a horse found by hint iiear the Wireless Station suffering great pain. The inspector added that lie had found the animal standing an three legs, with a largo opori sore on the- near hind limb. There were also ' large sores on the forelegs and on various parts of tho body, Tbe horsft was old and. ia very low condition. He had seen the owner, Who admitted that it was in a bad state. The owner had not seen it for three days., and was willing to have it- destroyed, and that course; had been followed. 'Legal opinion on the case is to bo obtained. Mr. Seed was instructed to make fur--, tber inquiries, with a, view to proceedings with regard to a ease of. a • eo\v which, it' was alleged, turned out on Seatoan heights with a broken leg. The animal had eventually been shot. There woTe no subscriptions to record, and the chairman remarked that the bank balance of .the society was steadily coming down. The attention of the society was drawn by the inspector to some turned nails found by him on -tlio streets, thrown there, it was understood., with the object of injuring the horses of tho special constables. The inspector stated that two or three horses had been injured by these contrivances; It was mentioned that the penalty for such deliberate cruelty was five pr seven years' irnprisoiwa-ent.
