SAMPLE OP THE NEW,. WORK. ' • . WORK. . (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, November 18. A new record in the loading of butter from the wharf to ship's hold has been made by tho men now korking at tho Opawa at tho Queen's Wharf. The steamer is taking a-very large cargo of produce'for the London market, including about 45,000 561b. boxes of butter, which is the largest quantity ever taken from -Auckland in one steamer. Work on the Opawa was begun on Friday, and during 26 working hours up to 5 p.m. today 27,681 boxes of butter were stowed in- the vessel, the average for the whole period being slightly over 1060 boxes •per hour. As the average up till the end of the previous day's work was under 1000 boxes, it is evident that tho cargo was handled very rapidly to-day. The previous record was made when the Eiiahino was loaded'at an average of 1000 boxes per.hour for 25 hours, by men who were regarded as experienced waterside workers. The high speed has not been gained by a sacrifice of efficiency, as the work has been done in a thoroughly satisfactory manner. Ninety-five men wero working the Opawa to-day, five hatches were being used. Wool, copra, butter, tallow, pelts and kauri gum were also loaded into them. TWO THOUSAND' MEN / WORKING. INCLUDING 1200 LATE STRIKERS. Auckland, November 18. It is estimated that there are 2000 men at work in ten of the fifteen trades affected b ythe strike. Of this number about 1200 are repentant strikers.
