RECENT STRIKE SCENES.
THE FEATHERSTON STRIEt RIOT. HQTEI, BOMBARDMENT. WOMAN WHO WIELDED A STICft. ! _ Strike oases prolonged yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court till nearly S p.m. _ The, first of a series of cases ■ in connection With the riots in Feathorston Street on November 5 was that of Charles .Johnson, who was charged with being a member of an unlawful assembly. Accused Was represented bv Mr. a J.Fitzgibbon. — — Watson, a special constable, stated that ho was a guard art the' grounds of the Government -Buildings on the afternoon of November 5. • He saw the special men being stoned, and, ■shortly afterwards., there was a rush for the grounds by a section of. the mob. Witness noticed accused bending down, in the grounds with one hand in his pqoketj and ho (witness) at onco went over and laid hands on tlio mail, Stones Were afterwards taken from Johnson's pocket. •' Witness had previously seen accused among ®ie moo of rioters.
Witness was cross-examined by Mr,, Fltzgibbaii, and His Worship hadocea-, sion to remark that ho wished that witness and counsel would endeavour tc confine themselves to question and "an/, swer.. I have a duty to perform for. rny client, and 1 want to hear some fair witnesses in this case. Evidence of a like nature, but dif-. faring in points, was .given by four, special .constables. At the conclusion of the hearing accused entered a plea of.flout guilty,, and. was committed to the Supremo Court for trial. Mark Johnston "was charged with tailing part hi an unlawful, -assembly/m Ifertuerston Street 'on ftovember'' 6\. Accused was represented by Mr,. & F, W, Dickson. After hearing evidence of .a nature similar to that given in the preceding-case by..a number, of special constables., accused was aslteci to plead* and ehtored a plea of not guilty..' He was committed to the Supreme Court for trial, bail being allowed as in the preceding case. . William George Coek.ell and Alexander Churchman Were also alleged to, have .been in the same riot at the same place. On the application of Mr. Dicksoli, remands Were granted till to-morrow, Street Amazon, Arising out of the riot til T'aranaki■Street en the night of November 4, when, the Royal Tiger Hotel waß bombarded : wi.th Stories, Florence Nelson, a married woman, appeared to answer two charges, one of taking part in an unlawful assembly, and another of wil- ■ Tally ■destroying' .a window, valued St Ms., and a lamp valued at 205., the property of Margaret M'lfttosh, licenseo <ii tho Eoyal Tiger Hotel, The first charge was adjourned to November £5, bail being allowed ift £26., and two sureties of £10 and ono of £20. Accused pleaded not guilty to the second charge. ■ She was represented by ftfr. j. F. W. Dickson.

"Notwithstanding the fact that t*o witnesses have giyon evidence that they did not see accused break any windows," said his Worship, in fining accused 40s; ( "there is the first witness, who positively swears as to accused's identity both ■as to her voice and dress." The Dog Shooter Again. Mr. P. \)h Jackson appeared for accused, and submitted; that there was not sufficient proof in the ease to sustain the charge. Barrett's Hotel Case. / As a result of tho disturbance in Barrett's Hotel on Monday, John Allen, a young man, appeared to answer a charge of using'insulting words, to wit, "Scabl Get to them!'* in tho bar at" Barrett's Hotel., with intent to provoke a breach of the pftace, Accused, pleaded not guilty* and was remanded to November 22, bail being allowed in £20, two sureties of £10 and oiie of ,£2O, Inspector Hendry stated that % uicideirt hftd liten tho cOmniencemout of a serioUs disturbance, in-4'lio hatcl, aiid a special constable had Oeen badly injured.
Cases Renianatid.. Edward Co'lclough was charged with taking part in a riot on October 30 at tip junction 4 Jcrvois Quay .and Customhouse JQtaa-y. Accused, ._ who was charged on Monday with tiring a revolver with intent, was remanded, till November 26, when both charges will tio heard. J, Fitzgibbon ho was remanded until to-morrow.
