Beiliss, the Jewish clerk, who was recently acquitted at Kieff, after a lengthy trial, of the charge of _ murdering a Christian boy named Yushchinsky, is' still virtually a ; prisoner. He is not allowed to leave his house, which soldiers aro continually guarding. Tho Government- is considering the question of an appeal against Beiliss's acquittal, while the Black Hand threatens to murder him.
Beiliss has been inundated by musichall offers. A Chicago film-makers' firm has offered him,£2ooo to poso for pictures, but he is not likely to accept, as a wealthy committee of local Jows is providing for his future. Beiliss, interviewed, said he had been treated abominably while in prison for thirty months awaiting his trial. "I was kicked and beaten. The authorities seemed anxious for me to die."
