CLEARING THE SQUARE.
NO MORE MEETINGS. Post Office Square was quiet yesterday. An important change was mad© in the action of the police. Hitherto tho strikers and others had, in a sense, had almesfc' complete possession of the Square; for the last several weeks it has been the rendezvous -of hundreds, sometimes thous-ahd-s. Yesterday morning the crowd regath.ered, but the mounted police and, mounted specials dispersed it, and thereafter kept the area clear. A few hundred remained about all day near the- foot' ways. This action on tho part of tie police prevented meetings, and as it is expected to be repeated daily, no more cart-tail oratory is looked for in Post Office Square. When a squad of specials were riding past the Federation of Labour offices on the waterfront yesterday someone directed abuse at them. A mounted man immediately loft the ranks, and With baton ready for use, made for the group. There was a, hurried scatter,' anal remarkably quick time to cover was made.
