It demonstrates Lytton as famous as .an oriator, notable as _ a politician, and renowned as a writer. It reveals the' unhappiest domestic relations, owing to the opposing temperaments and unhappy circumstances. His wife was beautiful and clever, but ill-disciplined, wayward, and exacting. They lived at the rate of £3000 a year, when their income was' only a few hundreds. Lytton made the balance with his pen, showing astounding industry. He completed ten novels, two long poems, a political pamphlet, a play, three volumes of the "History of Athens," and innumerable articles, for the press, besides being in Parliament £or the ten-years from 1627 ; to 1837. ;
