RE-OPENING OP LYTTELTON.
ON WEDNESDAY. ' '- l ' EMPLOYERS' TERMS REJECTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) , Lyttelton, November 15. Tho Lytteltdn Watersiders' Union, has i replied to the employers' ultimatum as follows: — "Yours of 14th received and con- ( tents noted, asking this Union to register under the Arbitration Act. In answer, we refer you to our executive in Wellington, who have our ' unbounded confidenco to.settle the present dispute. Wo wish you to understand we are not. out simply out of loyalty to our fellow-workers in Wellington, but to show our undisguised' contempt for tho Arbitration Act. We think it will do your committee no iarm to ca-reiully ■ read the sub-leader in this mornihg's 'Lyttelton Tillies'.'—P. Lurch, , chairman . for the . Strike Committee." , ' In consequence of the action of the strikers in'turning down the proposals of tho Citizens' Defence Committee, Arbitrationists will be engaged to work the wiharves, starting on Wednesday next. l On Monday barriers will bo erected on tho wharves, and it is understood that a large number of men have been engaged to work the shipping. What the attitude of tho strikers will be is not yet known, but the majority will probably confine themselves merely to passive resistance. There was a rumour, current' in port on Saturday that the Harbour Board employees had refused to erect barricades, but there doeß not seem to be much foundation for it. •
