STATE CONTROL DISCUSSED. By Telegraph-Press Association—Copyright London, November 14. The Royal Commission appointed last montli to report as to what changes are desirable in the relations between the State and_ the railway companies held its first sitting yosterday,- Lord Loreburn, formerly Lord Chancellor, presiding. _ Lord Loreburn said it was not intended to adjudicate on disputes between the companies and their customers. Mr. W. F. Marwood, Assistant Secretory to the Board of Trado (Railway Department), representing, the board, gave evidence that the traders' main complaint was regarding inequalities in the rates due to competition. A common grievance was that preference was given to foreign imports. The Board of Trade desired to ascertain whether .State control could bo developed, or something more drastio.
