"SICK OF IT."
HOW A VOTE WAS TAKEN. 1
Tho following letter appeared in the Auckland "Herald" on Saturday:—
■ Sir,—Wo read in your valuable paper of unions remaining "solid." Oh, how sick we are of it all! My union is said to;bo "solid." Let mo toll you something about it, and I cxpeet other unions are irl the same position. Our members were summoned to a general meeting. A deputation from tlio Federation of Labour was admitted, and declaimed ,to us" Very forcibly about "oppression," "down-trodden serfs," and so on. The chairman announced that a vote would bo taken on the question of a strike. "AH thoso," said lie, "in favour of striking clap their hands. All those against hold up their right hand. Carried unanimously." This was the farce in my union. I might further state that our membership is over 400. The number that attended was about 95. It may honestly be assumed that all of those who did not turn up were against coming out. For my part, I say with all my heart and soul, "God bless tho farmers of New Zealand!"
