j The shearers have decided not to „ strike—at any rate in the meantime. This was a statement made to a ro- ■ porter yesterday by Mr. Laraey (secre- , tary of the Shearers' Union), who snid . that tlio executive had decided on this course as members of the union were, so Bcattarcd throughout the Dominion that J it was almost an impossibility to ptit tj.io matter clearly before them ami obtain their views on tlio position. Stops were being taken, however, to ascertain tho [ opinions of tbo members, and a definite- ; announcement would be made later. It • was his intention to submit a motion to ; the effect that tho association, vote £.100 : out of its funds towards tlie Strike, and l r Wake a levy of 10s. per shearer, and 2s. ; per shed hand per week during tho cur- ' leney of the strike. Mr. Ljireicy added 1 that he was of opinion that tho shearers would take a very prominent part in the ; striko if it were not settled quickly.
