Brierly (London) said that ' arrangements wore practically complete for the holding of a conference in Canada next September. ■'■ Mr. -E. Horton (Now Zealand) said that the Presg of New Zealand had . maintained tho highest traditions of the English newspapers. ' Members of the House of Representatives were • startled shortly after. 10 o'clock last night by a report of a, pistol shot, apparently in tho lobby outside tho Chamber. The shot was fired by a taxidriver. Ho was showing to.some orderlies on duty at the main entrance door the revolver which he had been carrying for his protection in these troublous times. In response to a query as to wliother it was loaded, he said "No," and, evidently with tho intention of showing that it was not, ho pulled the trigger several times. After tho hammer had clicked three or four times the weapon fired. The bullet passed within an inch or two of an orderly's leg, and lodged half an inch deep in the wood low down on the wall. The chauffeur' 3 explanation ,was that he thought the revolvor was a five chambered one, and ho had, when unloading it, taken out of it five cartridges. Tho rovolvor was a six-chambored one, and : one of the chambers was therefore left loaded. . ■
