Tho writer, who encloses ah invoice for sugar at the rate of £19 10s. per ton, says; "In to-day's, issue of your paper I see that once again the Wellington Merchants' Association are endeavouring to pass tho blame of increased prices for sugar on to the retailers. ■ I enclose you an invoice for sugar for your inspection, so that you may see that in one instance at least tho wholesale merchant is tho one svlio has raised the prices. lam not in the habit of rushing into print, hut the retailor has had ~so nraeh blame cast on him for tho higher prices by people islio do not or will not understand that it is the law of supply and demand that fixes prices quite as much as the cost price of any article, that I feel I must speak a word in his defence."
