OTAKI NOTES.
1 The death occurred on Thursday night of another of Otaki's old settlers, making the third within a week.-. Tlio referonce is to the late Mr. William Webber, who was the first white child born in Otaki. For many years ho was engaged in survey work, and was afterwards ft coach proprietor hero. Deceased leaves a widow and ono son, a,nd a sister, Mrs. M'Cleland. Two tons of cheese, and 60 boxes of butter, are being manufactured at the local factory daily. Tho produce, which is blocked as tho resnlt of tho strike, lias stood the test splendidly, only a slight shrinkage in the cheese being noticeable. 3lr. Kent, lately 'in tho employment of tho company, left on Thursday for.Hawora, where Ire has received an' appointment as Government tester. A card party was held on Thursday evening under the auspices erf the local Horticultural Society, and proved very successful.
