THE IWTT VALLEY ROSE SHOW.

The animal Rose Show of t-bo Hutt Valley Horticultural Society was opened in the Town Hall, Lower Htvtt, on Wednesday,. Giving to the weatlier eond-i* . tions that have been prevailing for some time, the' entries were not perhaps quite what iiiey' would have been otherwise, but still it was a show well worth visiting.- Mr. S. Barker, tho secretary; with other ofßoers of the society, have - spared no- effort in- making it as successful- as possible, and they had reason ' to be satisfied with the results of their labour'-. Messrs. T. Wauglr and W. JB, Hardy, as well as the Bellcvuo Gardens, were rep resented by stands of very fine-cut flowers for -exhibition only, and were 'each awarded tlie Ruyal Hor-tia-ultural Satiety's ceftiftcato. Tho best rose in the show was sent in by Mr. Foster-Pratt, from Palitiorston NortJi-^- li Mrs. J. W, Welch" by'naiiie. .Mr. Foster-Pratt- also won outright ths silver .roso bowl presented by Mrs. E, J, Riddiford for tho bes-t collection r,f : twenty roses. Among these Wore soins very beautiful specimens—a "Maman Ccchot," and'a "Mrs, Donald M'Kce," with exquisite creamy petals, and a-tt "Ethel M.alcolm," tinged with the faintest.' sli.ado of pink. Mr. C. Trevethick won second place in tlie section. In another collection (Dr. Purdy's) was a , beautiful ixaso with very iarc;e pink votals, "Ena Bingham." Rivalling it in beauty .was a dusky crimson "Maharajah.," its single , eup of l'ooso j)efals : ccntrc-d by a, thick cluster of go Man brown stamens, at* tracting by its very simplicity. , The rhododendrons and ft collection &f Varicoloured irises made a fine display.
