MOTOR SPEEDS AGAIN. A now by-law regulating the speed of motor vehicles was adapted at yesterday's mooting of tho Hutt Caunty Council. Tho by-law reduces the speed downhill to ten miles per hour, but oil tlio up-grade it lias been increased to 15 miles per hour. Tho .maximum rate of speed through townships is to be 20 miles per hour, except at .intersections of streets and round corners, wlieii.t-ho speed shall bo no greater than eight miles jier lionr. Tho "state of the bridge over the B'utt Rive* on the Akatarawa Road was discussed on a report by tlio Inspector of Works, Mr. 3. W. Cud'by, who stated that it Was found to. maka continual repairs to the bridge, th<S decking constantly requiring attention, owing to tlio heavy loads ■of timber taken a -ross it. Sir. Cudby urged that ■either tko bridge slioitld bo rebuilt or steps taken to limit tho weight of tt'io loads carted across tlio present structure. On the niotio'it of Councillor Whiteman it was dccided to enforce thp licavy traffic by-law.

Mttnbct'S expressed disapproval of these suficestions, and it was decided to request Mr, .T, M. Wilted, M.P. (liiitt), 511. W. !T. P. Bdl, M.P. (Suburbs), and 51 r. J, Robertson. M.P. (Oiald), to oppose tho measure when it conies before t'ho House,
