Agreements made- in this way tend to strengthen the bond of union between employer and workmen. Bach has an opportunity of seeing points in dispute from the- other's point of view, and this establishes a reciprocal feeling of sympathy which does so lftiich to make business run smoothly. In spite of the doctrines of the noisy agitators who preach the class War. it is quite obvious that the prosperity of the worker is bound up with that of his employer, and the more generally this is recognised the better it will be for the industrial life of New Zealand. Every sensible employer knows that it is to his advantage to pay good wages for good-work, and to make the conditions generally as satisfactory as possible, and employers have much to lose and no< thing to gain by breaking agreements and disorganising trade.
