Tho by-olectiou for Linlithgow necessitated by Mr. Alexander Tiro's appointment, as President of tie Scottish Court of Session, resulted:— Pratt (Liboral) 5,615 Kidd (Unionist) ~.. 6,094 Mr. Alexander TTre wns Lord Advocate for Scotland prior to his new Appointment, and was regarded as. one of the most brilliant and valuable controversialists on the Liberal side. His majority over Mr. Kidd, who opposed Jdm at- tlio last general election, was 2070.
UNIONISTS CAPTURE LIBERAL CONSTITUENCY. The Reading by-election resulted:— Wilson (Unionist) 5144 Goech (Liberal) ............ 4013 Butler (Socialist) 1063 The previous Liberal majority, when Sir Rufus Isaacs was elected —tho seat became vacant on Sir Rufus's appointment to the Chief Justiceship—was 99 only.
